Date: 2/21/2007 - "Distance Across the Cosmos: From Hipparchus to the Accelerating Universe"

Public Lecture (free)
Presenter: Dr. Julia Kennefick, University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
Poultry Science Auditorium, 7:00 PM

How far away is that point of light in the sky?  This question has intrigued astronomers since the beginning of the profession, and is still one of the most pressing issues facing astronomers today. In this presentation, we will explore the history of the cosmic distance ladder, from the scale of the solar system to the current struggles to determine the distance to galaxies at the edge of the observable universe.
